How to post press releases to blogs and online magazines |
|
|
Correct way to submit an online press release or article to blogs and online magazines
With the onset of Web 2.0 the way you post press releases and articles to online portals, magazines and blogs have changed drastically. The editors of these new age publications are swamped with press releases and articles arriving in their inboxes on an hourly basis, this has caused them to become very strict on the formats they accept.
What makes a good post
Content
Your content should be written with the end reader in mind - foot notes aimed at the editor is fine. Don't expect them to rewrite, they won't, they don't have to, with the amount of emails they receive, they'll just choose something else that is less work for them.
Images
If you are wanting them to promote your clients product(s), please include images (as jpg attachments 72dpi around 600 x 600px, not in word documents or PDFs). Again they won't go looking for the images and it is most likely that they use content management solutions that resize the images on the fly which means they don't have software to convert from print ready to web ready or extract from Word or PDF files. Not providing images correctly is just plain lazy!
Publication dates
Send only press releases that can be published almost straight away. Trust me they won't come back to your press release if the publication date is in the future. If you want them to publish a press release on a specific day send it a day or two before hand. Don't forget this is not print media, they don't need proofs or playouts etc, its a straight forward copy and paste for most of them.
